At Nanhoron, conservation is a key part of our ethos. We are dedicated to protecting and enhancing the rich diversity of flora and fauna on our land. At Nanhoron, conservation is a key part of our ethos. We are dedicated to protecting and enhancing the rich diversity of flora and fauna on our land. For over 20 years, we have actively participated in Glastir, the Welsh Government’s Rural Development Programme, demonstrating our long-term commitment to safeguarding habitats and ecosystems.
As part of our efforts, we maintain and preserve several kilometres of dry stone walls and stone-faced earth banks, which offer shelter and habitats for small mammals, ground-nesting birds, and insects. We restore natural water habitats by reinstating and fencing off several ponds, creating clean, secure environments for aquatic wildlife to thrive.
Additionally, we plant wild bird cover to create areas specifically designed to support wild birds, enhancing biodiversity across our farmland. We actively conserve over 100 hectares of woodland, including 40 hectares of hazel coppice. This vital work has significantly boosted woodland biodiversity, creating thriving ecosystems for native species.
